Structure, Integration and Dissemination
of the European Mobile and Wireless Research
Efforts
The overall objective of SIDEMIRROR is structuring and
integrating the results/achievements of the relevant IST FP6 projects dealing
with Mobile and Wireless Communications, Systems and Technologies, and disseminating
these results through high-quality, thematic books to create a permanent
record of the European R&D achievements.
Project Objectives:
The project
SIDEMIRROR supports the research efforts undertaken with the launch of the
First Call of the FP6 Programme under the strategic
objectives “Mobile and
wireless systems beyond 3G” and also, partially,“broadband for all.” The main
objective of the project is to concentrate the European research effort by
structuring and integrating the results/achievements of the IST FP6 projects
and disseminating these results through high-quality, thematic book
publications. This will achieve a permanent record of the European initiative
within the communications and networks technologies domain.
The main ideas behind the
project are that high-quality and readily understandable information must be
provided about the results of wireless communications research and that
increased access to this information must be ensured for all, enabling
progress in the different areas of wireless research and technology to be
understood, evaluated, studied, compared and debated on a large scale.
SIDEMIRROR builds upon years of experience gained within the FP4 and FP5 ACTS
and IST programmes, correspondingly, namely with
the projects ASAP (www.cpk.auc.dk/~asap)
and PRODEMIS (www.prodemis-ist.org)
The approach for achieving the objectives is to follow and monitor the mobile
and broadband FP6 projects and thematically organise
the results of these projects to publish them as technical books. Following
and monitoring of projects is based on regular participation in Concertation/Cluster meetings and other relevant IST
events, such as the IST mobile summits and workshops. The project has duration
of 60 months (5 years).
